The primary goal of this quick start guide is to introduce you to Unreal Engine 4’s (UE4) development environment. By the end of this guide, you’ll know how to set up and develop C++ Projects in UE4. This guide shows you how to create a new Unreal Engine project, add a new C++ class to it, compile the project, and add an instance of a new class to your level. By the time you reach the end of this guide, you’ll be able to see your programmed Actor floating above a table in the level.
This quick start guide shows you how to add assets to your Unreal Engine (UE4) games. By the end of this guide, you’ll know how to use the Project Browser to create new projects and navigate the Content Browser to find and add content. You’ll also know where to find information on the FBX Content Pipeline while learning how to use the Material Editor to modify Materials before applying them to a Static Mesh Actor.

What is the target audience?
- You might be thinking, all of the above – and that is fine. But as a complete beginner learning Unreal Engine 4.
- The rendering system in Unreal Engine 4 is an all-new, DirectX 11 pipeline that includes deferred shading.
Learning a new game engine as a complete beginner is very intimidating. There are a lot of tutorials, documentation and advice already out but how do you start and proceed with learning Unreal Engine 4 is unclear. You get pulled into many different directions and end up confused and overwhelmed.
I have spent a lot of time deconstructing what it takes to learn a game engine from scratch. What it is that you should focus on first and what you should avoid until later.

1Introduction to Governance, Risk, and Compliance
-
2Module Introduction: Governance, Risk Management and Compliance (GRC)
This module introduces learners to the foundational concepts and integrated application of Governance, Risk Management and Compliance (GRC) within contemporary organisational contexts. GRC is presented as a unified strategic framework that supports responsible leadership, informed decision-making, and regulatory integrity across all sectors. The module draws on internationally recognised standards—most notably ISO 37000 (Governance of Organisations), ISO 31000 (Risk Management Guidelines) and ISO 37301 (Compliance Management Systems)—to establish the principles, structures, and processes that underpin effective organisational oversight and resilience.
Learners will examine how governance systems articulate organisational purpose, accountability, and ethical conduct; how risk management identifies and addresses uncertainties affecting strategic and operational objectives; and how compliance systems ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and internal obligations. The module further explores the interdependence of these three disciplines, demonstrating how integrated GRC frameworks enhance organisational performance, stakeholder confidence, and long-term sustainability.
This introduction provides the conceptual foundation for subsequent module components, including detailed study of governance roles and responsibilities, ISO-aligned risk assessment techniques, and the design and evaluation of compliance management systems.

5INSIGHTS: GOVERNANCE, RISK MANAGEMENT AND COMPLIANCE (GRC) (Revised, Integrated and Harvard-Cited Version)
1. Introduction
Governance, Risk Management and Compliance (GRC) represent three interconnected organisational disciplines that collectively ensure direction, accountability, ethical conduct and resilience. GRC supports organisations in fulfilling their purpose, managing uncertainties and meeting obligations across legal, regulatory and internal domains. Internationally recognised standards—including ISO 37000 (Governance of Organisations), ISO 31000 (Risk Management Guidelines) and ISO 37301 (Compliance Management Systems)—provide structured principles and frameworks for implementing effective GRC practices (ISO, 2021a; ISO, 2018; ISO, 2021b).
The purpose of this briefing document is to summarise the essential concepts of Governance, Risk Management and Compliance, highlight their interrelationships, and outline the ISO standards that enhance organisational performance, integrity and sustainability.
